Institute was founded in October 1959 and based on an idea by the architect, historian and art critic Bruno Zevi Since the foundation of IN/ARCH, Bruno Zevi involved all relevant figures in the process of architecture, the quality of the urban space and, more generally, the transformation of the living environment. From the very first meeting, the aim was always to “encourage collaboration between economic and cultural forces involved in the building process”. In 1959, Zevi said of his new creation: “IN/ARCH owes the place and the table around which the forces that produce architecture come together”. In other words, “industrialists, bankers, builders, engineers and architects, and also art critics and architecture enthusiasts”. The work of IN/ARCH has had a profound impact on the general direction of Italian construction policy, organising conferences and seminars in collaboration with ministries and public administrations. What’s more, offering a Masters degree in digital architecture, the Institute serves as a place of discovery of talented newcomers seeking to deepen the links between architecture and the new digital technologies. A sphere in which enterprise and creativity interact, and one which could become a leading sector in the Made in Italy economy.
